[Comment From JKujo JKujo : ]
Will GM be expanding the color palette for the Regal once production moves to NA. There's currently no non-monochromatic colors available. Even the Lexus IS offers blues, reds, etc, why can't GM do that on Mid-sized cars?
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:03 JKujo
1:04

Brian Sweeney:
We are launching with 6 exterior colors in spring and will add 2 more in the fall including ruby red metallic and espresso bronze metallic and expect for new colors to be added to the palette for 2010.

Hello. My family and I love the new LaCrosse, but it's too expensive. Why don't you put the 3.6 engine into the base model. The camaro comes with the 3.6 in the entry model, and it is cheaper than the entry LaCrosse. It should be a family sedan and not just a luxury sedan.
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:04 Guest
1:05

Brian Sweeney:
We recently announced a new 4 cylinder engine option which drops the base price by almost $1000. Although Camaro offers a 3.6L in a base condition, the LaCrosse offers a lot more content.

Correction to the Regal color answer -- the new colors will come in 2012 model year -- which is 2011 calendar year. Sorry about that.

Wiil there be a coupe and sport wagon version of the Regal?
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:07 Joe

Brian Sweeney:
No, but we are looking at all the different possibilities for Regal based on what's available on this global architecture and the success of other models in global markets such as Europe and China.

Thursday January 21, 2010 1:08 Rob Snell --Detroit News

Brian Sweeney:
We added third shifts at CAMI where Terrain is built and Fairfax where LaCrosse is built. At Arlington we just announced overtime for building fullsize utilities. We will continue to look at opportunities to increase production based on market demand.

[Comment From Tony Tony : ]
Mr. Sweeney the GMC Granite Concept, what makes it different from the scion XB and other vehicles similar in size?
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:10 Tony
1:10

Brian Sweeney:
The Granite will be more premium than the Scion XB and offer more functionality such as the unique cabinet-style doors and flip and fold interior seats. Granite will also offer great performance and fuel economy.
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:10 Brian Sweeney
1:11

[Comment From Henry Henry : ]
When is the small Buick sedan going to be for sale? The Regal GS was stunning at the car show, I loved the interior with the black headliner.
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:11 Henry
1:11

Brian Sweeney:
Thanks for the feedback, Henry, we heard great feedback from the show on not only the Regal GS but also on the GMC Granite concept.

[Comment From Chris Chris : ]
When the first Regal hits dealers the MSRP difference between it and the LaCrosse will be under $1,000. Won't this result in cannibalizing sales? Leasing support may help offset...
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:12 Chris
1:13

Brian Sweeney:
The vehicles are geared for different customers and their contented differently. Regal will be a performance car and be available starting only in a premium trim level, starting at $26,995 while LaCrosse starts at $30,395.

[Comment From Ron John Ron John : ]
Will GM be donating anything to Haiti?
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:14 Ron John
1:15

Brian Sweeney:
Thanks for the question Ron John, GM will be donating $100,000 to Haiti and will be auctioning a Corvette and will donate the proceeds of that. We're getting to as many questions as we can today, lots of interest in Buick GMC, thanks for asking.

[Comment From Joe Joe : ]
I have a 2006 Rendezvous and really like it. . Would be interested in the planned small Buick CUV as a replacement. How soon will it be coming on the market?
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:16 Joe
1:16

Brian Sweeney:
The beauty of our combined Buick GMC dealers is that we have dealers offering both Buick and GMC -- there's an opportunity for Buick CUV buyers to get into a GMC Terrain and we are evaluating other future entries in this space for Buick and GMC.
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:16 Brian Sweeney
1:17

[Comment From Thompson Thompson : ]
I am a potential buyer in my 20's who really appreciates the quality, drive-ability, style and legacy of a Buick. However it is not perhaps commonly accepted that a Buick would be a good choice for a buyer like myself. Is Buick doing anything now or in the future to reach out, market to or design to similar buyers like myself who would love to drive a Buick instead of a smaller luxury branded vehicle?
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:17 Thompson
1:18

Brian Sweeney:
That's a great question Thompson. We are expanding our portfolio and building cars that appeal to people of all ages. Based on feedback on LaCrosse and Regal we are attracting a younger audience. With LaCrosse we've done Tweetups and experiential marketing tactics such as street drives, shuttling participants at food and wine festivals, etc -- going to where the younger buyers are. Let us know if you have any other ideas.
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:18 Brian Sweeney
1:19

[Comment From Robert Robert : ]
Buick would have an advantage over all competitors if they offered 6 passenger configurations on some models. The next generation Lucerne, will there still be a 6 passenger option? When is the next generation Lucerne set to be coming out?
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:19 Robert
1:19

Brian Sweeney:
We haven't made any announcements on a future Lucerne. We now offer a 6-passenger Lucerne.

[Comment From Tony Tony : ]
If the GMC Granite goes into production what kind of price can we expect to see on it vs the competitors?
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:19 Tony

The Granite is still a concept and we haven't priced it.
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:20 Brian Sweeney

The LaCrosse starts under $28,000 though. Is the price jumping up?
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:20 Aldo

[Comment From Joel Joel : ]
I read that the Granite concept has a Dual Clutch transmission. Will the Regal or any other GM cars due to get this transmission anytime soon?
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:20 Joel

Brian Sweeney:
No plans for dual clutch transmissions at this time.

[Comment From Nate Nate : ]
I think the new Buick Regal GS is an incredible car. My only queston is when will GM offer it with the 2.8L Turbo V6 found in the Opel Insignia OPC (AWD). The car seems underpowered even at 255 HP to me. If GM put the 325HP Turbo V6 in I'd buy one for sure.
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:21 Nate
1:21

Brian Sweeney:
At 255hp with 0-60 in less than 6 seconds we think we're in good shape if we bring this to production.

1:22

[Comment From Kevin from Oshawa Kevin from Oshawa : ]
Brian, I am performance enthusiast in need of 2nd family vehilce... some feedback on your concepts... I really like the Regal GS... sharp - bound to change Buick's image and build some street credit. Now what I would really really like to buy a turbo-4, AWD, Regal GS Wagon based on the Opel Insignia OPC wagon. Now we're talking!

Thursday January 21, 2010 1:24 Lance

Yes Lance, the 2011 MY 3/4 ton diesel with an extended cab and long box Sierra will be available mid year 2010.
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:25 Brian Sweeney
1:25

[Comment From Lenny Lenny : ]
Hi Brian. Is there no room in the Buick for a revival of the Riviera? With the Zeta platform now available, could a RWD coupe return. I know you don't comment on future product plans, but this seems like a great way to enhance Buick's new image.
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:25 Lenny
1:26

Brian Sweeney:
With GM focusing on Buick as one of its 4 core brands anything is possible. Would you like to see us bring back the Riviera?
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:26 Brian Sweeney
1:26

[Comment From Ron John Ron John : ]
Why does GM have Tahoe, Escalade, and Yukon. They are all the same. Why not save money and just have two like Honda and Lexus
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:26 Ron John
1:27

Brian Sweeney:
Each of these 3 vehicles attracts a different customer and serve a different role in our portfolio, and are very profitable for us. Denali is unique to GMC, for example and attracts different buyers than Chevy's models.
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:27 Brian Sweeney
1:28

[Comment From JKujo JKujo : ]
Will there be a marketing blitz for the Regal ala the Malibu a couple years ago? It seemed like everywhere you looked an ad popped up. Will ads for the Lacrosse go away at that point?
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:28 JKujo
1:28

Brian Sweeney:
We have a strong launch plan for Regal with significant resources and we will continue to promote the LaCrosse which has been very well received by customers and dealers.
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:28 Brian Sweeney
1:30

[Comment From Nate Nate : ]
Brian, your answer of 4 clyinders to the Regal GS question just lost GM a customer. Why limit yourself to the 4 cylinder when the OPC engine exists in the same car. AND it broadens the appeal of the car. Personally I don't want a 4 cylinder because they are rough sounding (and I have driven recent Ecotecs). Th V6 is smoother and more pleasing and offers more then 50 HP more. Why can't GM simply import the power trains from Europe aren't they identical cars under the badges?
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:30 Nate
1:31

Brian Sweeney:
Emissions testing in the U.S. are different compared to Europe. If we produce this car we will need to make it a fuel efficient vehicle with great performance. Keep in mind the Regal GS is a show car and we are testing consumer feedback.
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:31 Brian Sweeney
1:32

[Comment From Nick - GMInsidenews Nick - GMInsidenews : ]
Based on the positive feedback of the Regal GS Show Car at NAIAS, do you feel the GS moniker is viable for Buick models beyond the Regal at some point to generate younger, performance-oriented buyers throughout the brand?
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:32 Nick - GMInsidenews
1:32

Brian Sweeney:
Hi Nick. Yes. The GS moniker has great heritage. Gran Sport has had a storied performance past for Buick and we think it could draw performance enthusiasts based on that heritage.

[Comment From Kevin from Oshawa Kevin from Oshawa : ]
For what it is worth Brian, I own a 2009 Pontiac G8 GT... I absolulety love it! All my neighbours love it !... most don't know even what it is... they thought I bought a BWM ! I could have sold a 2 G8's if they were still being shipped from down under. Just wanted to say the G8 is the best Pontiac I ever drove... 360 hp... and I can get 28 mpg on the highway if I drive for max mileage! I am a proud Pontiac owner! Now that the G8 is gone... people are realizing just how good it is !!
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:33 Kevin from Oshawa
1:34

Brian Sweeney:
Pontiac was a tough call and the G8 was one of our finest vehicles. We've heard terrific feedback from all of our G8 owners. We think they will enjoy the strong performance traits of our future Buicks, including the Regal.

Do Buick or GMC have any further debuts planned at the remaining major auto shows like NY or Chicago?
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:34 Sjones

Regal GS, Acadia Denali and GMC Granite will continue to be shown on the auto show circuit this season.

[Comment From Todd Lassa, Motor Trend Todd Lassa, Motor Trend : ]
I think we'd like to see a Riviera based on the Shanghai show car styling. That car was FWD, but there has been talk of building it on Zeta. Which version would Buick do?
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:35 Todd Lassa, Motor Trend
1:36

Brian Sweeney:
Todd, you are one of many who have lots of good to say about Riviera. Thanks.
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:36 Brian Sweeney
1:36

[Comment From Kevin from Oshawa Kevin from Oshawa : ]
The GMC Terrian is growing on me... and the Grantie has the same odd appeal, the kind that grows on you every time you see it... I think the reason I like it is becausing is polarizingly different. I also like the Grantic as a GMC because the brand is strong, tough, and refined, I like that. It should however have some wow factors... like LED headlights or daytime running lights (those really set new Audi's apart when you see them on the road)
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:36 Kevin from Oshawa
1:37

Brian Sweeney:
Kevin, the Terrain has been a hot seller in the market and 1/3 of buyers are new to GM, so others agree with you. It has other great features like standard rearview camera.
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:37 Brian Sweeney
1:37

[Comment From Chuck Chuck : ]
My wife and I own a 2007 Acadia and love it. However, I must say that the exterior styling of the Granite concept, specifically the lights and grille, blow it away. Does the Granite preview the exterior styling of future GMC's? I hope it does.
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:37 Chuck
1:38

Brian Sweeney:
Thanks for the Acadia purchase! Glad you love it. Since Granite is a concept its out there to stretch the bounds of what GMC could be. We're glad you like it.
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:38 Brian Sweeney
1:38

[Comment From Chris Chris : ]
Brian, yesterday I saw an artist rendering of a 2011 Regal coupe. With Buick trying to change perceptions, appeal to a younger audience, and garner attention. A 2-door version would be a great idea for the return of the quarter-century awaited Grand National.
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:38 Chris
1:39

Brian Sweeney:
Thanks for your comment on the Regal. We love the enthusiasm for the Gran National.
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:39 Brian Sweeney
1:39

[Comment From Anthony Anthony : ]
Yes, I am an under 30 year old current GM owner, and would love for Buick to bring the Riviera back and have it look just like the show car! The Regal is back so please continue the revival of Buick and cars with actual names!
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:39 Anthony
1:40

Brian Sweeney:
Thanks we like cars with names too!
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:40 Brian Sweeney

[Comment From Chris Chris : ]
Why did GMC release an Acadia Denali? Looking at market demand and a competitive edge. Wouldn't a Hybrid version make more sense... just slap in the 2-mode.
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:40 Chris
1:41

Brian Sweeney:
Acadia Denali makes sense for us based on our great experience with Yukon Denali and Sierra Denali. We already have class-leading fuel economy. We're working on future alternative fuel solutions... stay tuned.
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:41 Brian Sweeney

[Comment From Nick - GMInsidenews Nick - GMInsidenews : ]
Obviously Buick is aligning its lineups in China and North America. How about doing so with the Chinese Park Avenue in the next generation as Buick's NA flagship?
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:41 Nick - GMInsidenews
1:42

Brian Sweeney:
We have a great partnership with China and our design and product development teams there. We are sharing ideas back and forth. We've got a team of NA folks in China now. We want Buick to do well everywhere it's sold.
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:42 Brian Sweeney
1:44

[Comment From Jude Butler Jude Butler : ]
Buick has announced Lexus as a main competitor. But Cadillac is going after Lexus's best-selling model, the RX, with a smaller, less expensive SRX. How will you be managing the Buick brand so that it finds customers, but doesn't compete with Cadillac?
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:44 Jude Butler
1:44

Brian Sweeney:
Good question Jude. Buick is a premium vehicle without the premium price where it makes sense to target certain competitors we'll do that.
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:44 Brian Sweeney
1:46

[Comment From Michael Gauthier - WCF Michael Gauthier - WCF : ]
Hi Brian, the Insignia Sports Tourer is a big hit in Europe. Any chance of seeing a Regal version in the near future?
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:46 Michael Gauthier - WCF

At this time we're not planning to offer a versio nof the Insignia Sports Tourer.
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:46 Brian Sweeney

[Comment From Aldo Aldo : ]
Does it make sense to keep the CX trim level? It doesn't seem up to the Buick standard.
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:46 Aldo
1:47

Brian Sweeney:
We still appeal to a lot of customers who want cloth seats and our CX model offers that plus a lot of premium content.
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:47 Brian Sweeney
1:47

[Comment From Robert Robert : ]
Buick will always do well because of the quality of the build, the ride, the interior room, and offering more options as standard for the price than the competition. It is the hidden gem of the auto industry.
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:47 Robert
1:47

Brian Sweeney:
Thank you, Robert.
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:47 Brian Sweeney

[Comment From Nathan Nathan : ]
Why am I not seeing a lot of Lacrosses and Terrains at my local dealerships and when I ask if they are getting any, they tell me GM is not letting the dealers have them?
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:48 Nathan
1:48

Brian Sweeney:
We're selling the LaCrosse and Terrain off the trucks, Nathan. They are both extremely hot and dealers are taking orders and selling them as they arrive. I can't speak to the specific situation you refer to.
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:48 Brian Sweeney
1:49

[Comment From Aldo Aldo : ]
Cloth seats are fine. But what about an option to have them heated? And do hubcaps belong on a Buick LaCrosse? It hurts curb appeal.
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:49 Aldo
1:49

Brian Sweeney:
Good input, Aldo. Thanks.
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:49 Brian Sweeney

[Comment From Jude Butler Jude Butler : ]
I've read reviews on the Enclave that say that its 282hp V6 is adequate to move the large, hefty crossover, but more power would improve the driving experience. Do you agree?
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:50 Jude Butler
1:51

Brian Sweeney:
I don't think its underpowered, and consumers seem to agree. We don't get that complaint in research and Enclave had its best sales month in December 2009. Enclave remains a hot seller.
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:51 Brian Sweeney
1:52

[Comment From SSultan SSultan : ]
Brain... glad we can chat with you.. not sure if you answered this before...but I have heard several rumors that the GMC brand might be given the exit door treatment..
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:52 SSultan
1:52

Brian Sweeney:
There's no truth to that rumor. GMC remains one of GM's four brands with new products coming in the pipeline and resources dedicated to it, as you can see in the GMC Granite concept.
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:52 Brian Sweeney
1:53

[Comment From Matt Matt : ]
With the demise of the "Vue-ick" (thankfully), can you provide any information as to a timeframe for the 2-mode system to make it into a Buick or GMC vehicle?
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:53 Matt

Brian Sweeney:
The 2-mode system is already available in GMC's 3 full-size trucks (Yukon, Sierra and Yukon Denali).

[Comment From Tony Tony : ]
Does GMC have plans on having totally different vehicles than its brother Chevrolet?
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:55 Tony
1:56

Brian Sweeney:
Terrain is a great example of differentiation from Chevy -- only the only the windshield and roofline are shared with the Chevy Equinox. The Denali line is another exclusive to GMC and not Chevy.
Thursday January 21, 2010 1:56 Brian Sweeney

Brian Sweeney:
At NAIAS during the press conferences we shared the screens in the GM displays. When I was on stage however the backdrop was 100% Buick GMC.

Brian Sweeney:
Thanks for the questions everyone, good input and feedback. I can tell there's a lot of interest out there and appreciate the ideas on Buick. By the questions and the tone it sounds like we're changing some people's perceptions of Buick. You'll see some good stuff coming from GMC as well, like the Acadia Denali. 2010 is going to be an exciting year for us with good products and a great team working on them.

This concludes Brian's chat. Thanks for the questions, everyone - and always, we're sorry that we couldn't get to everything. Have a great weekend!
