Friday, May 13, 1994, a day that would change Jerry’s life forever. Always aware of the risks of driving a 5,000 horsepower nitro burning race car, this was the day of the worst crash in drag racing history. Memphis Mid-South Nationals, first qualifying pass, running E.T. 5.40 at 280 mph the left rear spill plate broke from the car. This piece creates down force and without it, the car went violently out of control, crashing head on into the guard rail . Upside down and on fire, Jerry still strapped into a broken chassis that rolled, hit the ground, up in the air again and again. Barely alive, he was air lifted to a trauma center. Sustaining numerous broken ribs, broken leg, punctured lungs plus other multiple injuries and on life support, he was given no chance to survive.

1995- "Comeback tour of a lifetime" Nine months after the accident Jerry made his comeback debut in Houston. Thanks to our racing family and support from sponsors and fans "BLUE THUNDER" was back. Donations of parts and generous contributions made it all possible. Cards and letters came from all over the country and even foreign countries, with words of care and concern.
