Why did it make a strange sound?I think I'll leave it this way; this is the first variable stroke crank I have ever owned!
Why did it happen? I don't know. Too much abuse for too long period. When I bought the engine the crank is from, it had been detonating pretty hard, and when the lifter broke two years ago, there was some valvetrain parts flying in the pan and hitting things. You can see some small knicks in the upper picture near the crack. Maybe it has evolved from those mishaps? Anyway, it was pretty lucky that it didn't let go completely.

Why did it make a strange sound?Ok, I didn't know that you put used crank in during last rebuild. With coming power upgrade you will need billet crank or what ?

Why did it make a strange sound?This crank was 1053 steel, regular production material. The new crank will be 4340 steel which is supposed to be stronger.

Why did it make a strange sound?Would be very interesting to see high resolution pictures of fraction surfaces also. If it is not too much of trouble for you. Just for curiosity - do you see any more hints of the fatique or sth. on this crank?
