Some friends of mine in Canada have asked me to post this here. DragRaceCanada is having a poll to determine the Canadian Driver of the Year. For some reason Jeff Arend is leading the voting. Now Jeff is a fine fellow but he is not really deserving of this award. Some folks who have ties to his sponsor have really loaded up the votes for him. If you are interested in helping a deserving driver, then please go to http://www.dragracecanada.com/hotzone/news/2004/December/07.asp and vote for Al Billes. Consider this:
Jeff Arend attended 19 races last year. There were an average of 19.68 cars trying for a qualifying spot. He was DNQ 3 times and qualified in the top half of the field once. He didn't win a single round of competition. He finished #16 in points.
Al Billes attended 20 races. There were an average of 26.7 cars at those races. He was DNQ once and qualified in the top half 10 times. He had 4 wins and a runner up. He won 22 rounds and finished #2 in AMS and IHRA and won the AMS Pro Mod Shootout.
Voting ends January 31st.

I hope you've been doing well!
The problem is that shareholders of the company that sponsors Jeff Arend (many of whom aren't even drag racing fans) have been voting over and over again for him in the belief that this will raise the value of their shares.
